Alaska – Homer Day 6
Oh No!! |
July 3 Tuesday Guess the RV didn't want to leave Homer either because
it wouldn't start this morning! Gary made another call to Coachnet
and the thinking was that it might be the fuel filter. Gary had
packed a replacement filter, so, after checking with the RV park
owner to see if it was okay to change it at our sight, Gage and he
went to work. It was changed in short order, but, unfortunately would
still not start. We spent most of the morning waiting for Coachneet
to locate an RV service center in the area and arrange a tow for us.
Then we spent most of the afternoon waiting for the tow truck to
come 70 miles from Soldotna to pick us up. As usual, Gage and Reid
made the best of the waiting time by heading down to the beach to
make a campfire and cook smores. Those two really know how to go
with the flow!!
Buddy, the tow truck driver, was great! He tried a couple of things
to get the RV going before it was obvious it was just going to have
to be towed. To get it hooked up for towing we first had to get the
RV to a flatter, larger area, so Buddy hooked a chain to it and
carefully pulled it while Gary steered it while it coasted to a spot
along the beach. We definitely provided some entertainment for the
RV Park and we got lots of support from other Rv'ers who have been in
a similar situation. Goes with the territory!
Finally we were on the road about 6pm—the tow truck pulling the RV
and Gage and I following in the car. It was 70 miles back to
Soldotna and raining most of the way. Buddy let us stay in the RV
in his parking lot for the night...he even had an electrical hookup
for us so we were comfortable. The garage was closed for the 4th
(these things seem to always happen on the weekends or holidays!) .
Tomorrow we have scheduled a cruise out of Whittier to Prince William
Sound so we made plans to get up early and drive the 1 ½ hrs there.
We will spend Wednesday night in the RV again and they will begin to
work on it Thursday and hopefully, uncover the problem.
Bummer on the RV...at least there is always something to do! Sounds like I'll have to check out the museum...sounds similar to the ones in Valdez! Have fun! The boys sound like Jon - just go with the flow and make the best of it! Great traits to have!
