Alaska – Seward
July 6 Friday Driving to Seward
today...slept in because it is only a couple of hours away. Got here
about about 3:30 and then had to find a motel. Not many vacancies,
but we have one for tonight and tomorrow night. We are not used to
looking for motels..nicer having our home with us! There was a big
cruise ship in dock when we arrived, but I think most of the
passengers were on board.

Seward is where Mt. Marathon is
located which is famous for an annual July 4th run. The
boys were hoping to take a hike on the mountain which is a
notoriously difficult climb, pretty vertical and really rough on the
racers, but, unfortunately the mountain is closed. One of the
runners did not report in after the race on the 4th and
they are still searching for him, so the whole mountain is taped off.
However, from our balcony last night you could see a climber up
there. I wonder if he will be fined for climbing.

We decided to do a salmon bake and
headed a little ways out of town, to a neat rustic restaurant. Great
food! And, the best price on an Alaskan King Crab dinner that we
have found. Reid and Gary ordered that and Gage & I had the
salmon bake. Gage also ordered an appetizer of King Crab Sushi which
we all shared. He has been craving sushi!

After dinner we drove along
Resurrection Bay on a muddy road. All of a sudden we saw a whale in
the bay! Pretty exciting! We tried our best to get pictures and
did get a few although not as great as we hoped. In the end, there were two whales! Wow!! Wasn't
expecting that at all!! Exciting way to end the day!

Sounds like you are all"going with the flow" pretty well. Hope the RV is up and running again soon. At least you have enough things planned that you won't get bored. Bet you are really glad you have the Jeep!
