Alaska – Seward
Day Two
July 7 Saturday Our second day in Seward started with a
visit to the Seward Sea Life Center. What a great place! There were displays and information of Alaskan sea life.
Also we saw live sea lions, harbor seals, puffins, and underwater life
such as an octopus and various fish found in Alaska. Fascinating to
watch. They also do rescue of sea life and they had rescued a baby
beluga on June 18. It was in quarantine so we could not see it in
person, but there was a screen that updated the status of all the
rescued animals that were currently at the center. Sadly, we just
found out that the baby beluga did not survive, but died on July 8,
the day we left Seward.

We drove a few miles out of town and went to the Exit
Glacier. This is a glacier that you can walk to...about a mile
each way. We decided to wear jerseys from the 2010 and 2011 Jon
Rightmire Memorial Race and have our picture taken in front of the glacier to
mark today as today is the 2012 memorial race. This is the
first time we have not been at the race, and although we have loved
our trip to Alaska so far, we were sad to miss this. Thanks to
Marlin, the Rieses, Laurie & Craig, Jessie, Mat Allen, Cyndy, the
Denmans and Frozen Ocean for making this race happen this year.
Thank you Karol & Laurie for keeping us in the loop as the race
was going on....it meant a lot to us. Thanks especially for sending
the picture of this year's jersey which Marlin designed around an
Alaskan theme. And thanks to everyone who posted pictures on
Facebook.
