Alaska – Soldotna/Kenai Day 2

July 5 Thursday Another early morning. Today is the day they take a look at the RV to see what is going on. We were able to stay in it again last night, but we had to empty out the closet and take the sheets & blankets off the bed because access to the engine is in the rear. We were up and ready by 7:30 am with bags packed in case were were not able to stay in it tonight. We went for breakfast at Louies in Kenai which was recommended to us by Mike the mechanic working on our RV. Great recommendation ---good food and a neat restaurant decorated Alaskan style....lots of pelts, animals and fish all over the place. Kenai is a very short drive from Soldtotna.
Louie's- note the polar bear pelt on the way

I did the laundry and got my haircut after breakfast while the guys explored Kenai.

We placed a call to Mike at noon and found out the RV needs a new HEUI pump (high pressured fuel pump) and fuel injectors. So, we are looking at least next Tuesday before we can pick up the RV. We made a reservation at the motel that is attached to Louie's for the night and then will head to Seward on Friday. We have to have the boys in Anchorage by Monday so they can catch a 1:00am flight home early Tuesday morning. So tomorrow morning we will head back to the RV to pack more thoroughly....the boys need to pack up everything and we need to pack for the next 5 days. Such is life...all part of the adventure!

Ended our day with a trip to the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters and VisitorCenter. There are so many beautiful and informative visitor centers in Alaska and the Canadian Rockies we always try to stop.

  1. Gary and Liz, This reminds me of our comments when we talked about the adventure of the trip. Sounds like you are having fun and working around the difficulties. Enjoy the rest of your trip. We should hit the lower 48 in a couple of days. Look forward to keeping up with your journey.
