This is Central Grocery, home of the original muffuletta and where we had ours. Luckily we got it on a less busy day...the other days we went by the line was halfway down the block on Decatur St.! |
Took a 2 hour drive to Avery Island, home of McILHenny Tabasco Company. The only factory in the world where it is made. It is shipped to 160 different countries. |
Took a tour of the factory at the visitor's center. |
The Country Store...lots of Tabasco products! |
Tastings of the various flavors...the newest one, Chipotle, almost burned Gary's mouth up! He only tried a speck on a pretzel stick!! |
In the factory...lots of tabasco bottles...they work 4 days a week. |
Daily bottle count...here is the number during our tour. |
Another interesting fact about Avery Island...first ever salt mine in the US. The salt is used in the aging process of the tabasco sauce. |
Full moon over Baton Rouge on the I10 bridge during rush hour as we inched our way back to New Orleans and our RV. |
